BPM / Delay Time Calculator

Convert tempo to delay and note times in milliseconds, or convert a delay time back to BPM. Covers normal, dotted, and triplet note values.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert BPM to milliseconds?
A quarter note at X BPM lasts 60000 / X milliseconds. Other note values are fractions or multiples of that: an eighth note is half, a half note is double, and so on. The table on this page does the conversion for every common note value.
What is a dotted or triplet delay time?
A dotted note is 1.5× the normal note duration. A triplet note is 2/3 of the normal duration (since three triplets fill the time of two normal notes of that value). Both are common delay-pedal and DAW delay settings.
How do I convert a delay time back to BPM?
Use the reverse calculator: enter the delay time in milliseconds, choose the note value and modifier it represents, and it solves for the matching tempo.
