Channel Balance Test
Check headphone driver matching with alternating L/R tones at multiple frequencies. Detect imbalance in dB. Checks perceived L/R loudness balance, not output channel routing.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why would headphone drivers be imbalanced?
- Manufacturing tolerances, aging, and driver wear can cause volume or frequency response differences between left and right drivers. Even new headphones can have slight imbalances.
- How much imbalance is acceptable?
- Less than 1 dB difference is generally imperceptible. 1-3 dB is noticeable to trained ears. More than 3 dB indicates a potential defect or significant driver mismatch.
- Is this the same as the Speaker Channel Test?
- No. This tool checks whether your left and right headphone drivers sound equally loud. The Speaker Channel Test instead checks whether multichannel output (stereo, 5.1, 7.1) is routed to the correct physical speaker.
