Feedback & Ringing Detector
Find acoustic feedback and ringing frequencies live so you can notch them with EQ — for PA, stage monitors, podcasts and streaming.
What this tool tells you
What it does
Use this while ringing out a PA, monitor wedge or desk setup to identify the frequencies that build into feedback.
How to use it
Start the detector and slowly raise system gain. Persistent narrow peaks are flagged and collected into a list of frequencies to notch.
How to interpret it
A held musical note or test tone also appears as a narrow persistent peak. Cut only frequencies that actually ring, using narrow notches.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How does it detect feedback?
- It looks for narrow spectral peaks that stand far above the rest of the spectrum and persist for several frames — the signature of a feedback loop.
- What should I do with the frequencies?
- Apply narrow EQ notches (high Q) at the listed frequencies, a few dB at a time.
- Can music trigger false alarms?
- Yes. Sustained notes look similar. Ring out with the room quiet or with speech only.
