Real-Time Analyzer (RTA)

Live 1/1, 1/3 or 1/6-octave real-time analyzer with peak hold, decay control and target curve overlay for speaker and room tuning.

What this tool tells you

What it does

Use this while placing speakers, adjusting EQ or checking a PA, typically with pink noise playing.

How to use it

Choose band resolution and decay, start the RTA and play pink noise through your system. Compare the bars with the optional target curve.

How to interpret it

Readings include your microphone response and room position. With pink noise a flat system shows equal band levels; move the mic and average several positions before making EQ decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use pink noise with an RTA?
Pink noise has equal energy per octave, so a flat system shows equal bars across fractional-octave bands.
Which resolution should I use?
1/3 octave is the standard for room and PA tuning; 1/6 octave shows more detail; 1/1 octave gives a quick overview.
How is this different from the Spectrum Analyzer?
The Spectrum Analyzer reads files with a full FFT. The RTA works only on live input and groups energy into standard octave bands.
