Speaker Channel Test
Identify and test individual speaker channels in stereo, 5.1, or 7.1 surround. Includes polarity/phase check. Checks output channel routing, not perceived L/R balance.
What this tool tells you
What it does
Use this when you want to confirm each output channel in your system, from stereo left/right up to 7.1 surround, is routed to the correct physical speaker.
How to use it
Choose your channel layout, play each channel individually, and confirm sound comes from the expected speaker. Use the polarity test to check for wiring reversals.
How to interpret it
This tests output routing and polarity, not perceived loudness balance between drivers. For headphone driver matching, use the Channel Balance Test instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does surround sound work in a browser?
- Yes, if your system audio output is configured for multichannel (5.1/7.1). Chrome and Edge have the best support. The tool uses ChannelMergerNode to route to individual channels.
- Why do I only hear stereo?
- Your operating system or audio device may be set to stereo output. Check your sound settings and ensure your receiver/DAC is configured for surround.
- Is this the same as the Channel Balance Test?
- No. This tool checks whether your output channels are routed and playing from the correct physical speaker. The Channel Balance Test instead checks whether the perceived loudness of your left and right headphone drivers matches.
