Stereo Field Analyzer
Analyze stereo image with goniometer, correlation meter, and mid/side energy display. Check mono compatibility. Inspects a file’s recorded stereo content, not your output routing or perceived balance.
What this tool tells you
What it does
Use this when you want to inspect a file’s stereo image: how wide it is, how correlated the channels are, and whether it will sum cleanly to mono.
How to use it
Open a file and review the goniometer, correlation meter, and mid/side energy display together to understand its stereo content.
How to interpret it
This analyzes the stereo content already recorded in the file, not your speaker or headphone output routing. Low or negative correlation is not inherently a problem — it depends on the material and intended playback.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the correlation meter show?
- +1 means the left and right channels are identical (mono-compatible). 0 means they are uncorrelated (wide stereo). Negative values indicate phase issues that can cause cancellation when summed to mono.
- What is mid/side energy?
- Mid (M) is the sum of left and right (the mono-compatible content); side (S) is the difference (the stereo-only content). Comparing their energy shows how much of the mix depends on stereo width.
- Does this test my speaker or headphone output?
- No. This tool analyzes the stereo content already recorded in the file itself, not your playback routing or hardware. For output routing, use the Speaker Channel Test.
